Noel Watson was born in Naples, Maine to a family of sign painters and surveyors. He attended Portland School of Art, graduating in 1971 with a degree in Lithography. He returned to Portland School of Art in 1972 for a year of independent study in the print shop, followed by an apprenticeship with Herb Fox in Boston.
He returned to Maine to pursue his love of skiing, and spent the next twenty-five years teaching the sport, all the while continuing to draw and paint. During the summers, he painted signs for Swett Sign and Gemini Sign in Conway, New Hampshire. He also worked from 1993-2003 with G. A. Sawyer Surveying and Engineering as a surveyor and draftsman on the plans for Attitash Bear Peak, Jordan Bowl at Sunday River, and other recreational facilities in western Maine.
He has spent the last 15 years quietly refining his artistic skills and painting mainly in oils, his passion among the mediums in which he works.
